ダイアローグの英文
Title: Preparing some goods for shipping
M: First, you need to sign in to one of these computer terminals. The orders that are scheduled to be dispatched will be displayed on the screen in order of priority. (※1)
W: What happens when I select one of the orders?
M: The computer checks which items are needed and where they are stored in the warehouse. (※2) It then tells this information to a machine that fetches the appropriate boxes. (※3) The boxes are brought here on this conveyer belt. (※4)
W: That seems simple. After that, I take the required number of items out of each box and place them into one of these plastic containers. Is that right? (※5)
M: Exactly. Don’t forget to scan the barcode on each item when you transfer it into the container.
W: Does it matter which container I put the items into? (※6)
M: You can choose any empty container. Note that for large orders you may have to use more than one. (※7)
W: How will I know when I’ve collected all of the items for the order?
M: A notification will appear on your screen. You can then take the container to the packing area. There the goods will be packaged, weighed and labeled.
ダイアローグの解説
【※1】 The orders that are scheduled to be dispatched will be displayed on the screen in order of priority.
“The orders will be displayed”（注文が表示される）が基本の文で、“that are scheduled to be dispatched”は“orders”という名詞を修飾している節です。
【※2】 The computer checks what items are needed and where they are stored in the warehouse.
この文は“The computer checks A and B.”（コンピューターはAとBを確認する」という構造で、“which items are needed”（どのアイテムが必要か）と“where they are stored in the warehouse”（それが倉庫のどこに保管されているか）という二つのwh節が名詞のように使われています。
【※3】 It then tells this information to a machine that fetches the appropriate boxes.
「そして」、「それから」という意味の“then”は文頭でも、文中でも使えます。しかし、文頭で“then”を使うと、その後に一拍間を置くようなイメージで“then”が強調されます。例：“We first need to write our daily report and punch the clock. Then we can go home. ”（まず日報を書いてタイムカードを押さないと。そしたら、家に帰れます。）今回の文のように強調をする必要がない場合は、主語の後に“then”を入れることで間を置かず文の流れを保つことができます。この文の“information”とは、前文の中にある“which items are needed and where they are stored in the warehouse”（どのアイテムが必要で、それが倉庫のどこに保管されているか）という情報のことです。文中では“this information”と“this”が使われていますが、文法的には“that information”としても問題ありません。“this”と“that”は、該当の物を心理的に近く感じているか、遠く感じているかで使い分けます。近いと感じていれば“this”を使い、遠いと感じていれば“that”を使います。この文で、男性は自分が直前に述べた情報に言及しているので、“this”を使っています。

コンベヤベルトが話し手の男性の近くにあるので、指示代名詞には“this”が使われています。遠くにある場合は“that”を使います。(3)でも解説しましたが、基本的に近いものに対しては“this”を使い、遠いものに対しては“that”を使います。
【※5】 Is that right?
“Is that right?”は自分の言ったことが正しいかどうかを確認するために使う表現です。“that”は代名詞で、直前の発言全体を表します。このように、直前の発言全体に言及する場合には“that”を使うことが多いです。例：“I’m going out with some friends tonight. Is that okay?”（今夜友達何人かと出かけるけど、いい？）上記の例で“is this okay?”や“is it okay?”と言うことはできません。
【※6】 Does it matter which container I put the items into?
“matter”は「問題」や「事柄」を意味する名詞ですが、この文では「重要である」ことを意味する動詞として使われています。形容詞ではないので注意が必要です。今回の文でもそうですが、it構文で使われることが多いです。例：“What does it matter?”（それがどうしたというのですか？＝それが何か重要なのですか？）

“more than one”は“more than one container”（二つ以上のコンテナ）のことです。
ダイアローグの日本語訳
男性：まず、コンピューター端末のどれかにログインしないといけません。配送予定の注文が画面上に優先順で表示されます。
女性：その注文の一つを選択すると、どうなりますか？
男性：コンピューターがどのアイテムが必要で、それが倉庫のどこに保管されているかを確認します。そして、適切な箱を取ってくる機械にその情報を伝えます。箱はこのコンベヤベルトでここに運ばれてきます。
女性：それは簡単そうですね。その後、私がそれぞれの箱から必要な数のアイテムを取ってプラスチックのコンテナの一つに入れる。それで合っていますか？

【解説】二人がどういう人物であるのかは会話全体の内容から推測する必要があります。会話文を通して、「男性が説明をする→女性が質問をする→男性が質問に答え、さらに説明する」という流れになっているため、男性が女性に対して教える立場にあるということが分かります。選択肢（B）の“A teacher and student”は「教え、教えられる」関係にありますが、会話文には教科（subject）などを表すような語句が出てこず、“warehouse”（倉庫）といった単語は学校を連想させるものではないことから、（B）は選択肢から除外できます。（A）と（C）はどちらも「サービスを提供する側、される側」の関係です。文中には“order”（注文）、“item”（アイテム、商品）といった単語は出てきますが、価格やサービス・商品の詳細といった情報が出てこないため、（A）と（C）も選択肢から除外できます。正解は（D）で、会話文を通して、男性が注文された商品を発送（dispatch）するまでの手順を女性に説明しています。
